Housing Minister, Paul McLennan, visits Trust
We were delighted to host Paul McLennan MSP, Minister for Housing, on Wednesday 29th November at our recently remodelled and extended Housing with Care development at Lochar Crescent, in Pollok, Glasgow.
The remodelling work included reconfiguring an existing part of the building previously used as a care home, along with the construction of four new build apartments to create a total of 13 additional extra-care apartments with open plan living/kitchen areas and shower rooms.
The project was 50% funded by the Glasgow City Council’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme. Trust are also currently working in partnership with Glasgow City Council and CCG (Scotland) to deliver 46 new affordable, energy efficient amenity homes at Langlands Road in Govan, with that project due to complete in spring 2024.
The Pollok visit included a tour of the new extra-care apartments and the on site facilities within the development including a new extended communal lounge, laundry and hair salon. The Housing Minister met with tenants of the new homes and also met with Trust’s leadership team to learn more about the organisation and the key opportunities and challenges facing the sector.
Paul McLennan, Housing Minister, said: “I was delighted to visit Trust to see the work they are doing for older people in Pollok. Living in a suitable home with the right support helps to enable people to live safely and independently.
People should have choice, dignity and freedom to live in homes that are built or adapted to meet their needs. This includes supporting older people to live independently in their community, a commitment in our national strategy, Housing to 2040.”
Rhona McLeod, Trust CEO, said: “We were delighted to host Paul McLennan at our Housing with Care development in Pollok. The building has had some substantial works carried out which has improved the services and provided more homes for new customers, thanks to 50% funding from Glasgow City Council.
This was a great opportunity to showcase the work Trust have completed in Glasgow recently and for the minister to see first-hand the high-quality affordable homes that we are building.”
